Need Help!!! I need to write a news article about why settlers should move to the west during the 1800's, I have all of my information, but I'm having trouble putting it into words. Any help? Here's the requirements: Explanation of why people should travel west and what they should bring with them Description of where travelers should go and how they should get there Description of life in the West, including the people who live there Possible advantages and dangers of life in the West

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What kind of information have you found?

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

I know that travelers should go down the Oregon Trail, Or the Santa Fe Trail To get to The west, (California) And I know that life in the west is difficult, People often suffer from starvation, Theft, And Harsh Weather, I know that California is also a free state, So that atracks a wide varity of culture, such as Chinese imagrints, And Afercan americans, People will go there because of the cheap land and gold and mining oppertunities.

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

The people who live there (NAtives) are the Californios, and the Native Americans.

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

I just really dont know how to put that into a New artical. :( Can you help? @mipie13

OpenStudy (anonymous):

They also had to bring stuff with them probably like clothes and stuff... And yes, I can help you.

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

And water, and dried foods, and blankets and such, ya, I just really dint know how to word it all.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Does it specify what year or years in the 1800s or just the 1800s?

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

1848 - 1850's

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, okay, so around the time of the California Gold Rush.

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Yes, Thats a reason why people are going! ^-^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have a whole chapter in my American history book on that! ^_^

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Really? Cool! Can you help me out? xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, it's a news article, if you are writing to influence people to do something, or at least think about it, it might be best to start off with a question!

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Like a persuasive mini essay? What kind of question? Should it be avritizing work, or just life in the west in general?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it should be a question that would be influential to moving to the West in general, and the work there could be like a supporting detail as to why they should move.

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

So like: Have you ever dreamed about a new beginning? A new Job?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Exactly! :D

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

How can I follow that up though?

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Great job that you are doing here @mipie13 ! ;D

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

OOh, Kewl, tell mipie ur idea!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks! @kewlgeek555 You can help out too, the more the better! :)

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

My main problem is just wording all the information! I'm WAY out of my league here.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Maybe something like: Well stop dreaming, and make it a reality by moving to the West.

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

OOh, good one, Let me write this stuff down

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Thats the grading rubric FYI

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks ^

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Thank you. Okay. So you need help in the wording, like maybe how to make the article, what paragraphs what to details to put in each paragraph?

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

YEs Exactly! I have ALL of the info, everything I need to know, I'm just horrible at wording things!

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Heres what I have for an intro (Thanks mipie): Have you ever dreamed of a new beginning? A fresh start? What about a new job? Lucky for you, you can makes all your dreams a reality by traveling to the West!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nice! :)

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Oh garsh, look, I have something that can help. Hold on a second. :) Then I will have to be back later. That is a great intro btw ;) I never think a news article as a news article, I just do it like an essay anyways because it is kind of an essay, the only difference is that it can be longer or shorter. They both have an introduction, a middle, and a conclusion. Introduction: State your thesis, or position on the statement Arguments: Body Paragraph 1: (State your first argument) Example or detail to support your argument: Example or detail to support your argument: Example or detail to support your argument: Body Paragraph 2: (State your second argument) Example or detail to support your argument: Example or detail to support your argument: Example or detail to support your argument: Conclusion: Restate your thesis and summarize your arguments.

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

I know that I need to incorporate all of the bad and the good some how, but I'm not sure how to do that, I know, this should be in English. xD

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

I will be right back. Sorry, but I think ur in good hands. ;)

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Thank you so much! ^-^ Pie, Give him a medal, I gave mine to you )-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Very helpful, kewlgeek!

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

What would my first arguement be? Like, what would I bring up first? The job opertunities? And if so, How exactly do I jump from an intro to that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Something along the lines of: We've got all kinds of opportunities: Land opportunities, gold opportunities, job opportunities, any kind basically. Speaking of jobs, if you need one, this is the place to be! Miners, storekeepers, entertainers, people will even pay you to carry their stuff!

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Omg! Thats an amzing idea!!!! I need to start thinking like a salesman like you, Let me write some stuff down.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

LOL XD.

OpenStudy (wwhitlock):

Sorry so late to the discussion. I see you are getting some good help. I'm wondering if you might start with the sales pitch idea and then do a FAQ. Introduce it with something like, "Our buyers want to know" Then write a question and answer it. Make sure you've covered every thing.

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Ok, So Is it okay if I use that? This is what I have: Have you ever dreamed of a new beginning? A fresh start? What about a new job? Lucky for you, you can makes all your dreams a reality by traveling to the West! We've got all kinds of opportunities: Land opportunities, gold opportunities, job opportunities, any kind basically. Speaking of jobs, if you need one, this is the place to be! Miners, storekeepers, entertainers, people will even pay you to carry their stuff! Please Note, It WILL be a hard trip to make, a 6 - month journey to be exact, and there will also be Natives that may not be pleased to have you there, but the benefits out weigh the costs highly!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I like it! :)

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

I don't know how to include the folowing: California is a free state, so african american are welcome, and also there is high risk of theft and starvation, and the west is lacking in schools, and Doctors, ect.. How do I include that?

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

@mipie13 Omg ur profile pic is sooo cute btw

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How about: Not only that, but California is a free state, so all ethnicities are welcome. And maybe put it in the paragraph about the opportunities so that way the bottom half of the article are the downsides. And thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

DON'T you have a teacher to ask? and didn't you study it in class ?

OpenStudy (wwhitlock):

@kseniya4560 Why do you come here? This is a place to get and give help. Sometimes teachers are not available. And sometimes teachers are on OpenStudy

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

@kseniya4560 I know all of the information, I'm asking how to word it all into a article, There not telling me stuff I don't already know. If you read through this, you will see that I am actually participating.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

She has all the information, she's just stumped on how to write it and she can't just go ask the teacher to write it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then for the introduction of the downsides you could maybe say: Everything has a downside to it. We're not trying to scare you, but, there's a lot of things life threatening in the West.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

brb

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k sorry i was just wondering?

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

I finished it! I think, what do you think? Have you ever dreamed of a new beginning? A fresh start? What about a new job? Lucky for you, you can make all your dreams a reality by traveling to the West! Not only that, but California is a free state, so all ethnicities are welcome. Here are some frequently asked questions about the trip: Q: What are some things that would be wise to pack for the trip? A: I suggest keeping the load light , I would only pack necessities such as water, seeds, dried foods, and matches! It also would not hurt to pack good trading items like jewelry or silverware. A dictionary would also be a good thing to read, so you can learn the native language. Q: What route to I take to get to California? What is the terrain like? A: You can take the Oregon trail, or the Santa Fe Trail. The terrain consists of steep mountain trails. Q: What are some possible advantages and dangers of life in the West? A: You always have the possibility of theft, and/or harsh weather. Starvation is also an option is you run out of food. As you can see, there will be some challenges, but the advantages are amazing! You have the ability to get cheap land, Work on the railroad, or even try your luck hunting for gold. Hope to see you soon!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nice! Just a few grammatical errors.

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Oh. Aside from that, I every thing ok? Is it A or B worthy?

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Wow, I cam back just in time. >v> I think in the third paragraph there should be a little bit more benefits. Also, I just love the FAQs, but it you have time, spice it up a little by putting quotes: "Going West has changed my life in such a good way, I can't explain it." ~Thomas Washington "I have never had as much wealth!" ~John Smith Something like that. cx

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Fake peoples names?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I've got quotes from people in my textbook.

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Reaally? What are they?!?! ;0;

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, I've got letters written from people and a song they used to sing. And I think things people said as well. Which ones do you want?

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

what are some things that people said?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

An unidentified prospector said: "There are but few women... we have not seen more than 10 or 12."

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

...... Thats depressing xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Ok, I added some stuff in, I wont bore you with it, I will turn this in and tell you the grade, thank you so much <3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem!

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Welcks! ;D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

O_O

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

>v>

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

)-) (-( *eats cheese*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

LOL. But for real, I'm really glad I could help! I love to write! :D
