Depends on the size, but it will be whatever unit used for measuring the length of the item squared. Examples: inches^2, cm^2, feet^2, meters^2, km^2, miles^2, etc.

If you are measuring the size of a room, it isn't very practical to measure in inches^2, or miles^2; usually such measurements use feet^2.
