Classify the following mixture as heterogeneous or homogeneous: concrete. A. Heterogeneous B. Homogeneous

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A heterogeneous substance will not be consistent in a single sample. Think of a poorly blended smoothie: you are going to have some big chunks of berries, as well as some finely blended stuff. Other examples of heterogeneous substances include mint chocolate chip ice cream, salsa, and soup. (I may or may not be hungry) A homogeneous substance is consistent throughout the substance. Examples include water, air, sugar, etc. This should help you determine if concrete is homogeneous or heterogeneous. If you are still unsure, go outside and take a close look at your sidewalk. Is it consistent or inconsistent throughout? Hope this helps!

so b

Look again! The bits of gravel are different sizes, and each substance in concrete is not thoroughly mixed. This is a difficult one because it might seem consistent throughout. However, concrete is like a poorly blended smoothie; some pieces of "fruit" are bigger than others.

oh thanks so much :)
