Convert 33.58° into degree, minutes, seconds.
you can do this - it is the reverse of what I just gave you before 1 deg = 3600seconds so .58 deg = ? Then convert the seconds to minutes - any remainder is seconds
would i do .58*3600?
to convert the seconds to minutes what steps do i take?
c'mon - please try it for yourself 1' = 60"
I am trying to! lol but what numbers do i convert from seconds to minutes? just the .58 or the 33?
first convert the .58 deg to seconds (as shown above)
i got 2088 seconds
then i divided that number by 60 and got 34.8
That's good. so 2088" = 34' + some seconds
what do i do with the 33 in front of the decimal though?? and how do i write the remaining .8 seconds in 34.8?
You need to take a deep breath - look at what you are doing, look at the question, and get the answer from what you have done. You are very close
okay so 33deg34'8''?
Not quite You started by calculating the number of seconds (2088) Now - this is equal to a whole number of minutes plus the remainder. How many seconds is 34 minutes? How many seconds are left from the total?
oh thats right! so would it be 33deg34'48''?
Well done - that's correct. Just remember that it is the bits after the whole numbers that you convert, but then you must ad back the whole number afterwards!
yeah i completely forgot that last step! thank you so much! :) really quickly can you just confirm that 63deg32'47'' in decimal degree form is 63.546? I just want to make sure i did it right :)
We did that before - check it yourself - I believe you have the idea now
