Last year, Rebecca contributed $95 per month toward her 401(k) account. If her employer matched 19% of her contributions, what was the total amount contributed to the 401(k) at the end of the year?

OpenStudy (kohai):

So the first thing that you need to do is figure out how much Rebecca put towards her 401k in one year. That's simple enough, 95*12

OpenStudy (kohai):

Once you figure that out (we'll call it x for this explanation), you need to figure out what 19% of that number is. To do that, convert 19% to a decimal. It would be 0.19. Then multiply 0.19 to your x value.

OpenStudy (kohai):

Then add that number (we'll call it y) to your x value, and that is the total amount contributed to her 401k
