the mean of a set of data equals the sum of the terms, divided my the number of terms the median is the middle term if the set is \(\{x_1, x_2, x_3, x_4, x_5\}\) the mean is \(\bar x=\dfrac{x_1+x_2+x_3+x_4+x_5}{5}\) if the terms are in order ie \(x_1\leq x_2\leq x_3\leq x_4\leq x_5\) the median is \(x_3\)
