A scatter plot was created from the data shown. Which describes the variables in the scatter plot created from the data? A. The independent variable is calories and is graphed along the horizontal axis. B. The independent variable is calories and is graphed along the vertical axis. C. The independent variable is time and is graphed along the horizontal axis. D. The independent variable is time and is graphed along the vertical axis.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think independent variable is time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

calories is the dependent variable

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think it might be C

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

The independent variable is time because the amout of calories taken depends on the amount of time (which makes the calories the dependent variable). My own opinion would be on C because I would say that the independent variable should remain on the x axis. Which is the horizontal axis.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but i could be wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We got the same answer. Read Calculusxy's explanation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks guys can u help me with more please

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

Identify the independent and dependent variables in the following statement. The more water flowing into the pool, the greater the water depth is in the pool. A. The independent variable is the depth of water in the pool, and the dependent variable is the rate that water is flowing into the pool. B. The independent variable is the rate that water is flowing into the pool, and the dependent variable is the depth of water in the pool. OpenStudy (calculusxy):

I will give you a helpful tip that should help you on solving these problems. The independent variable stays all by itself. It doesn't need to depend on someone. The dependent variable needs to depend on someone to give it its result.

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

I want to ask you about what you think is the answer to the first question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it B

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Good. You're getting there !

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

@mahnoorkeen2001 Is the same question repeated three times?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it right

A study was designed to determine the relationship between driving speed and gas consumption for new lightweight sports cars. What are the independent and dependent variables for this study? A. The independent variable is the driving speed, and the dependent variable is the weight of the cars. B. The independent variable is the driving speed, and the dependent variable is the gasoline consumption. C. The independent variable is the gasoline consumption, and the dependent variable is the driving speed. D. The independent variable is the weight of the cars, and the dependent variable is the driving speed.
