Which term describes a behavior of an organism that allows it to survive in its particular environment? A. ecosystem B. adaptation C. organism D. evolution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B would be your answer, which is Adaptation! Adaptation is a behavior an organism has that allows it to survive in its habitat. An example of adaptation would be lizards and geckos! Their tails fall off whenever they're attacked to distract the predator so they can get away. A pretty nifty adaptation if you ask me! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ProfessorPacman, a tail falling of is not a behavior, it is a physiological event. An example of an adaptation that is a behavior: the fawns of whitetail deer (and many other deer and antelope) hide from predators by finding cover, laying down, and then not moving. Or, japanese honeybees, which lures the scout of the giant japanese hornet into the beehive, swarm and cover the hornet, and then begin to increase the temperature by movement. The bees can survive at higher temps than the hornet and end up "cooking" the hornet. Since the hornet was a scout, the hornet colony never finds the beehive.
