OpenStudy (btaylor):

Why did my SS drop? I had an 80 earlier this week, have been on every day, and suddenly I'm back at 79. Did anyone else experience this problem?

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Hi, SmartScore is a relative system. It lowers and rises based on the performance of your peers. For example, if I, Compassionate, had a SmartScore of 79, and you had 80, then I would, by nature, be below you on the system. However, if I quickly raised by SmartScore to 80-81 and surpassed you, then I may take your position in the system. It's a win/lose system. You have to constantly progress and do better or else someone will relieve you from your title.

Smart Score can go up as well as down! Sometimes : i) Some of your fans unfan you then your Teamwork score may go down. ii) Some medals given to you by the users may be taken back or the questions might have been deleted. In this case, your Problem Solving score may go down. Similarly, there are many such instances in which your SS may experience a drop but at the same time, if the above things happen vice-versa then your SS may go up too :)

mathslover (mathslover):

Also, if you stay inactive for a long time or many users give competition to you i.e. many users are approaching to a higher SS then your SS may decrease if you're inactive!
