Determine if the relation is a function. {(-5, 5), (-6, 7), (-7, 7), (-8, 0)} A. function B. not a function not a fun ction?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Hint* it cannot have 2 of the same 'x' coordinates in any given ordered pair.. if it did...say (2,4)(2,5) it would not pass the vertical line test because |dw:1397400673264:dw| So do any of your coordinates have the same 'x' value?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

\[\large (\color \red{-5}, 5), (\color \red{-6}, 7), (\color \red{-7}, 7), (\color \red{-8}, 0)\] Are any of those the same? if so...then not a function if not...then it is a function

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its not function

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

...Yes it is...if I were to graph this it would be |dw:1397408714731:dw| There is no point in that graph where you can draw a vertical line and have it hit 2 points....that "by the vertical line test" proves that this relation is INDEED a function
