What are your options? In the late nineteenth-century, immigrants mostly lived in tenement housing. They were cramped and filthy, so illness spread quickly. It was very difficult for immigrants to get jobs. In fact, a common acronym found on "Now Hiring" signs was NINA, or "No Irish Need Apply." Party Bosses would often give immigrants jobs and housing in exchange for their vote. These are just some quick facts about immigrants during the time, but I hope they can help you.
