I will fan and medal anyone who answers. Which statement describes the graph of f(x) = –4x3 – 28x2 – 32x + 64? A. The graph crosses the x axis at x = 4 and touches the x axis at x = –1. B. The graph touches the x axis at x = 4 and crosses the x axis at x = –1. C. The graph crosses the x axis at x = –4 and touches the x axis at x = 1. D. The graph touches the x axis at x = –4 and crosses the x axis at x = 1.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Plug in the values 4, -4, 1, and -1 for \(x\) and see what you get.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

I would start in this case by plugging in \(x=1\), so you can narrow down the answer set most easily...

Thank you, whpalmer4.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Also note that you can make your life a bit easier by factoring out a 4 from all of the coefficients. This doesn't change the behavior of the function, just the vertical scale.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

actually, factor out -4, not 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got D.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

That would be correct.

Thank you! :)

You're welcome.
