A polynomial function has a root of –5 with multiplicity 3, a root of 1 with multiplicity 2, and a root of 3 with multiplicity 7. If the function has a negative leading coefficient and is of even degree, which statement about the graph is true? A. The graph of the function is positive on (-infinity, –5). B. The graph of the function is negative on (–5, 3). C. The graph of the function is positive on (-infinity. 1). D. The graph of the function is negative on (3, infinity).

idk what they mean by multiplicity but a root means that (x+5)(x-1)(x-3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't understand it either, it's confusing.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I've eliminated B and A as answers though. I'll just guess C. *crosses fingers*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well its obvious it will be a 3rd order equation or an odd function and if there is a negative coeficcient that should keep it negative so I', assuming its D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but do not quote me as I am only doing mental math

Okay, lol Thanks anyway! :)
