I have a friend who goes on archaeological digs during vacation time off from work. He says that finding a pit toilet site is usually a great prize. People would often throw broken tools and utensils down with the waste. The human waste has long broken down into chemicals components, but the tools are preserved. I would imagine it would mess up geological tables though.
