Solve x + 8 < 3 and x + 9 > -4.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like terms: x + 8 < 3 -8 -8 x < -5 ~~~~~~~~~~~ x + 9 > -4 -9 -9 x > -13

hero (hero):

x + 9 > -4 Subtract 1 from each side: x + 8 > - 5 Now you have x + 8 > -5 and x + 8 < 3 Rewrite as -5 < x + 8 < 3 Subtract 8 from each side: -5 - 8 < x < 3 - 8 -13 < x < -5
