The Tamils in north and east of Sri Lanka have been living in oppression and appalling conditions since the end of the Civil War. The Tamil people are not allowed to move around freely. There is a permanent presence of the Sri Lankan army in North which add to roadblocks, checkpoints, patrols, systematic surveillance, harassment and intimidation of the Tamils.
