A shot-putter throws a shot at an angle of 40.0 degrees from the ground with a force of 160 N. What are the x and y components of the force exerted by the athlete? (Need help understanding this-not just the answer)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x: 160 cos (40) y: 160 sin (40) Think of a right triangle with 160 as the hypotenuse and the x and y components as the sides adjacent to and opposite to the 40o angle.
