Lincoln Middle School has a total of $200 to spend on notebooks and tablets for the school board meeting. Notebooks cost seven dollars each, and tablets cost five dollars each. If x represents the number of notebooks and y represents the number of tablets, which graph correctly shows the solution to the problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

those are answers a,b,c,d

and the urls above are the graphs which are the answer choices.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have more questions also.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

heres another one maybe you could help me with.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which correctly describes how the graph of the inequality -4y - x ≥ 7 is shaded? Above the solid line Below the solid line Above the dashed line Below the dashed line

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and this other one Which inequality matches the graph? X, Y graph. X range is negative 10 to 10, and Y range is negative 10 to 10. Dashed line on graph has positive slope and runs through negative 10, negative 9 and negative 1, negative 3 and 8, 3. Above line is shaded. -2x + 3y > 7 2x - 3y < 7 -3x + 2y ≥ 7 3x - 2y ≤ 7

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

The links for the answer choices don't work, could you try doing a screenshot or something? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the graph to the last one i posted is ...... http://learn.flvs.net/webdav/assessment_images/educator_algebra1_v17/05_05_quiz/05_05_graph_8.gif

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

I'm getting this message http://prntscr.com/3a1wwl which usually happens when I'm not allowed on your online school :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

me too

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

and please only post one question at a time...

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

How about lets try the Lincoln Middle School one first? :) (money amount)(object) + (money amount)(object) = (total amount of money for all objects) so you can get equation 7x + 5y = 200

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey sorry eating dinner

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you need me to post the pics?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Those are the answer choices for the Lincoln question

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

alright :) so they want to spend less than or equal to 200 right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

so equal to would have a solid line and less than means that it would be shaded under right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i guess i dont really no, i would asume so though because less would be down and greater would mean above.

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

correct :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dont they all have a solid line though.

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

well, you would want to choose the option that does have the solid line then, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im asking i thought they all have a solid line.

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

well I'm pretty sure the last options doesn't if you look closely :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oooh, isee some have dotted lines and some have solid lines, i was so confused lol. but the correct answer is one with a solid line thats also less so its on the bottom that would be the first option a

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

Correct! :) Great Job ^_^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you help me with two more?

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

I can try...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which correctly describes how the graph of the inequality -4y - x ≥ 7 is shaded? Above the solid line Below the solid line Above the dashed line Below the dashed line

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

well first solve for y like you would if it were an equation :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im not really good at this. but ill try.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have no clue.

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

add 4y to both sides subtract both sides by 7 divide both sides by 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont understand how you would add 4y to oth sides.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would it be x >/ 7 +4 y ???

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

negative x but yes :) then subtract 7 from both sides and divide both sides by 4 :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-7x>/+4y?

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

-7 - x >/ 4y :)

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

then divide both sides by 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.75-x>/y ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-1.75***

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

yes :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im still confused what the answer is.

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

well, the or equal to line would mean that it's solid and if it is < y then it's above and if its > y then it's below :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its below.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Below the dashed line.............. is this the answer.

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

well, "≥" has an "or equal to" line right? and "the or equal to line would mean that it's solid"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so below the solid line. is correct

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

yes :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have one more (:

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

okay :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which inequality matches the graph? -2x + 3y > 7 2x - 3y < 7 -3x + 2y ≥ 7 3x - 2y ≤ 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since its a dashed line that illuminates c and d

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

you're right :) then we can use the same idea as before and solve for y to see if it's shaded above or below

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and its above , so itd have to be y > so i think the answer is a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because in answer choice a its -2x + 3y > 7 and there is y >

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

Correct! :) just be careful if it had been a -y then it wouldn't be true :P but you've got it right ^_^ A is correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got it wrong, but the other two you helped me with were right.

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

awww, sorry about that... :/ well, I'm glad I could help :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you
