help me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you post a question i'll try

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sum of two no is 54 and diffrence is 14 then find the no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x+y=54 x-y=14 or y-x=15? Treat is as a system

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@lexiistarr

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[a+b=54 \] \[a-b= 14\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@DAshingNii @Daezo

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solve for a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a = 54

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@julieishere21

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, so you have to solve for a variable.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b = 14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry diffrence is 15 not 14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

plug those into the two equations i gave you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[54+15=?\] \[54-15=?\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x+y=54 x-y=14 ------------- -1(x-y...14) = -x+y=-14 ----------------------- x+y=54 -x+y=-14 2y=40 y=20 --------------- x+y=54 x+(20)=54 x = 34 ----------------- (34,20) FIXED

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If the difference is 15, do what I did, but change 14 to 15, and solve

OpenStudy (anonymous):

54+15=69 54−15=39

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmmm dont you get a decimal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah I agree with @arilove1d I got a = 34.5 b = 19.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i got a = 34.5 b= 15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ans is 6 and 9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how ? @akshay1234

OpenStudy (anonymous):

add 9 and 6 15 comes up and we multiplt these no 54 comes up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'll explain how I got my answer: a + b = 54_____(1) a - b = 15 a = 15 + b_____(2) Substitute (2) into (1) 15 + b + b = 54 2b = 54 - 15 2b = 39 b = 19.5 Substitute b = 19.5 into both (1) and (2) a + b = 54 a - b = 15 a + 19.5 = 54 a - 19.5 = 15 a = 54 - 19.5 a = 15 + 19.5 a = 34.5 a = 34.5 And that is how I got a = 34.5 and b = 19.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The question does not ask us to multipy anywhere @akshay1234

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry my mistake but your ans is correct according to question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@DragonSage yours looks correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you @arilove1d but can you explain how you got b = 15 please?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm sorry i meant 19.5 i was looking at your question and absent mindlessly typed 15 instead of 19.5 .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh thats okay then, I just wanted to make sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its good that you pointed that out
