How does the division rule for exponents help in understanding why anything to the zero power is 1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because \[x^1/x^1\] gives us that we must subtract 1-1 in the exponents. Thus since \[x^1/x^1\] is equal to 1 so too is \[x^0\]
