What stand did the United States take in the struggle between the Vietminh and the French? A. They aided the Vietnamese by sending them military advisers and money. B. They aided the French by sending them military advisers and money. C. They supported the Vietnamese fight for independence because Ho Chi Minh believed in American-style democracy. D. They refused to get involved in any way.

Well, it is not D, since that is why we have the Vietnam War. It is not C, because Ho Chi Minh was a communist, it is B. We helped the French to keep communism down, although it contradicted our doctrine since Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia were colonies of France, but I guess it out weighed the threat of communism and the domino-effect.
