Evaluate the expression x^2 y^8 over x^7 y^6 if x=-2 and y=4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Isn't this just substituting x and y for their defined values?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes I understand how to substitute, Won't I don't understand is what you do when you're done with that, do you multiply the values or subtract them?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i can not understand can you show in easy words

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well when you're done substituting, you take the powers of each number and then multiply

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And if over means divide then you divide the numerator (product of x and y powers) by the bottom

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, So the answer would be -1/2.. right?
