The name of a switch is Switching Hub. They are actually doing the same job. The switch does it better. Have you looked into what the switching part of it means? Do you know what collisions are?

Collisions are where two things on a network talk at the same time and they run into each other in a hub. The switching part of a switching hub is there to address this.
