help with calc please?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

linearizaton of e^x+x=2 is e^2x-e^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and e^x+x = 2x+1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Remember the Maclaurin series for \[e^x = 1 + x + \frac{ x! }{ 2 }+...\] We can just use the series up to the second term. 1+x+x = 2 1+2x=2 2x=1 x=1/2 For a closer approximation, use more terms from the series.

so the exact answer would be 0.5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's not the exact answer. It is an approximation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm cause its telling me to write the 'exact answer' it wont let me use the / sign

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay 0.5 worked :)
