Each unit on the map represents 5 miles. If you drive 20% of the way from Landview to Seaside, how many miles have you driven, and in which quadrant would you be on the map?

3

how many miles

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Actually, Sarah is wrong. There are 6 units separating Landview from Seaside. If each unit is 5 miles, then the total distance is 30 miles. But it is asking you what 20% of that is. 20% of 30 is .2 * 30 Which is the same as dividing by 5. 30/5 is 6. The answer is 6. Not 3.

Six miles. There are other ways to do I don't think you want to know what they are.

ok thanks but what quadrant is it in 2 or 3 and i think that's what Sarah was referring to that it is in quadrant 3 but idk

\[6squares*\frac{5miles}{square}*0.20=6miles\] \[6squares*0.2=1.2squares\] That's not enough to cross the x-axis so you'd still be in Quad 3.

thanks @twvogels

I was talking to my mother, but he covered it pretty well.
