why was Galileo tried and sentenced to house arrest by the catholic church

Something about being charged with hersey .
Basically Galileo was in support of Copernican Astronomy, which was met with much opposition from the Catholic Church. At the time, the Church was pretty much central to the government as well as religious matters, therefore they charged him as a heretic and rigged the trial.
