Explain how changes in solar activity affected global climate in the past ?
It has some influence. But very little variation has occurred over the past 30 years. The current problem is caused mostly by anthropogenic activity. Solar activity changes over billions of years, not a few decades. As science-phobic AGW deniers like to point out, the sun was a primary cause of the Little Ice Age. This was known as the Maunder Minimum when sun spot activity was very low. Currently, sun spot activity hasn't been up to par, yet the Earth is still warming. The facts that the Earth is warming more at night and warming more at the poles also points away from Sol as the cause of the current warming.
