Why was it important for the Turks to capture Constantinople?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Muslims had been trying to conquer Constantinople since long before the Ottomans. Part of it was because The City was an obstacle to Muslim growth in the region. However, it's also important to remember Muhammad gave a prophecy stating that before the End Times and the arrival of the Dajjal, that Muslims would march on and occupy both the City of Heraclius (Constantinople), and Rome. So religious eschatology was a major contributing factor.

Constantinople gave the ottomans access to trade routes of africa, europe, and also gave it a good position to attack other countries.
