Can someone tell me how to find the the widest parabola function from a list?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Are you given a list of functions or equations?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yea, y=3x^2, y=2x^2

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

In general, y = ax^2 + bx + c the leading coefficient 'a' determines how wide or narrow the parabola is

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

the further 'a' is away from 0, the more narrow it gets

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

as 'a' gets closer to 0, then it gets wider

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the higher the absolute value, the more narrower it gets?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

exactly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, thanks very much

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you're welcome
