Evaluate the expression below when g = -6. -3g - 2 -(-4g + 10) A) -18 B) 2 C) 30 D) 54

OpenStudy (a1234):

Simplify this: -3(-6) - 2 -(-4(-6) + 10) 18 - 2 - 24 + 10 16 - 24 + 10 -8 + 10 = 2

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

a1234, you made an error with distributing that negative through

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you explain a little more what it is that you did? or how you solve it please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you first distribute the negitive which would make the parathensis 4g + 10) then you would replace g with -6 so the problem would read -3(-6) - 2 + 4(-6) - 10 then you would multiply into the g which would then make the problem 18 - 2 - 24 - 10 you would then cut it down more by woorking the problem out so 18 -2 equals 16 then minus 24 which would equal -8 then minus 10 would make it -18 there for your answer is -18

OpenStudy (anonymous):

WALAHA!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Basically everytime you see a 'g', you replace it with -6 (since g = -6) So that's why you go from -3g - 2 -(-4g + 10) to -3(-6) - 2 -(-4(-6) + 10)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just told her let her read mine then bicker!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

from there, you evaluate -3(-6) - 2 -(-4(-6) + 10) using the steps shown above

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

and line 2 in a1234's work should be 18 - 2 - 24 - 10

if you are satisfied with your answer please click best response and close question thank you!

OpenStudy (a1234):

Yeah, sorry, the - applies to the whole side.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup that's what i said in the work i did

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you!!! I understand now @tbl

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and i broke it down so she could understand..see ^ your welcome tina!
