2. In a research project intended to gather data on the effects of type of study method on examination performance, participants are randomly assigned to one of two conditions. In one condition they study alone, using notes they took during class lectures. In a second condition participants study in interactive groups with notes from class lectures. The amount of time spent studying is held constant. All students then take the same exam. In this study:
a. What is the independent variable? Different Methods b. What is the dependent variable? Performance in the examination c. . Identify the control and experimental groups. a. Control group=Participants b. Experimental Group= Two Methods d. Is the independent variable manipulated, or is it a participant variable?
What is the independent and Dependent Variable? I want to confirm I have it correct.
I agree with your answers for independent and dependent variables.
ok great. How do I find if the independent variable or participant variable is manipulated?
The participants do not choose the method, they are assigned randomly to a group. Therefore the independent variable is manipulated in my view.
Control group and experimental group correct?
Assuming most students study alone, given a free choice, I think the participants studying alone make up the control group and the participants in interactive groups make up the experimental group.
