The air was cool, warmed only by a brilliant sun that stood high in the sky. The bare branches of the trees swelled with leaves that were about to emerge. Green spikes were thrusting through the earth in the flower beds. In sunny spots in the yard, the yellow buds of daffodils were practically open, and hyacinth clusters were changing from green to pink or white. Although it was only the middle of March, spring was coming to Atlanta, Georgia.
