When you are exposed to sunlight for a long time, your skin, which otherwise appears normal, gets heavily tanned. What could be the reason?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The rays from the sun literally burn the skin, which makes the pigment of your skin cells tan. This is why black people (I'm not picking on them) get so much darker when they are outside for long periods of time. It's why white people get tanner and burn. It all has to do with the rays of the sun. I hoped this helped :)
