Choose the correct description of the graph of the inequality -2x < 10. Open circle on -5, shading to the left. Closed circle on -5, shading to the left. Open circle on -5, shading to the right. Closed circle on -5, shading to the right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

open circle means included, closed means excluded. if x>5 is it possible for x to be 5 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't fully understand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x> 5, the variable can't be 3 - that is not greater than 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but can it be 5 exactly ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right! so, it is not included - and at the spot 5, there would be an open circle we have -2x < 10. you can divide both sides by -2 to get an equation with x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1x<-5 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the numbers are correct, but if you divide/multiply with a negative in an inequality - you have to change the direction of the sign

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1x>-5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

exactly !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you!

you're welcome ;)
