We want to find the total area of the figure.  But there is no general formula for that shape.  We should break it up into smaller rectangles whose dimensions we know and areas we can find.

Rectangles have the same length on opposite sides, so that the right side of length 26 is split up into the length of 14 (the other side of the bottom rectangle)  and 26-14 (the remaining length).
