A car traveling at 60 km/h will skid 30 m when its brakes are locked. If the same car is traveling at 180 km/h, what will be its skidding distance? Show your work.

270

got it?

OpenStudy (gebooors):

In braking, kinetic energy is converted to heat by friction. Because kinetic energy is proportional to v^2, increasing Speed three times bigger causes 9-times higher Kinetic energy. If friction between road and tires remains same, Skidding distance is 9 times greater.

mayb i wrote the same thing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

by newtons third equation we get velocity is directlly prop. to the square of distance...by taking ratio we get 270

thank you both!! @abhishek1997 @gebooors how do I word it, like write it as an answer just like you two wrote it?
