Bob has a container with a capacity of 12 quarts. He wants to express this capacity in gallons. Write a proportion to find the number of gallons of water Bob’s container can hold.

OpenStudy (bibby):

1 gallon contains 4 quarts. You want to set up the proportion so that you can "cancel" the units like so: \[\huge \frac{ 12\cancel{quarts} }{ ? }*\frac{ 1gallon }{ 4\cancel{quarts} }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have to also solve the proportion

OpenStudy (bibby):

you're really just dividing by 4. It's not a proportion you have to solve. it's just fraction multiplication 12 1 --- * --- 1 4

thanks
