The myelin is a type of fat. By having it wraps around the nerve, it acts as a layer of insulation, which prevents the conduction of electrical pulses. between myelin cells, there are nodes which allows the conduction of pulses. Instead of all the Na/K channels open one after another along the nerve, only the ones that located at the node will open. Once the former node receives a signal, it will generate enough stimulus for the next one to be activated. In labs, scientists prove that this type of conduction, is much faster and more effective in energy conservation.Hope its helps:))
