well do some factoring 1st \[\frac{5(x -1)}{(x -1)(x +1)} \times \frac{(x + 3)(x + 1)}{(x - 1)}\] cancel the common factors.... to find whats left...

well when you remove the common factors (x -1) and (x + 1) you are left with \[\frac{5}{1} \times \frac{(x +3)}{(x -1)}\]
