which of the following occurs during artificial selection but not during natural selection? A. selection pressures result in only certain traits from a population being passed to an offspring. B. traits are passed to offspring through traits C. mates and females mate and create an offspring D. traits that make an organism more beneficial to humans are favored
Evolution question! Aww yiss :D Here's the thing: natural selection selects for traits which are beneficial to the species with the traits, not humans necessarily. In artificial selection, we humans choose what traits we like. Oh, these roses are redder than the others, so I'll make offspring from them to get even redder roses. That's human, artificial selection and it benefits us. On the other hand, in natural selection, let's say we have ten antelopes. Five are fast and five are slow. Those who are faster will naturally be selected for because they can escape their predators better. Faster gazelles aren't of much use to humans directly, so natural selection doesn't benefit humans necessarily. The answer is under D :)
