I spent some time looking at this. Don't quote me on this but rather consider it. The way I am seeing it is that, we do split these up into the 5x5 squares. dA = 25. And then we have to choose a "representative depth" for each square. This can be any one of the corners, although I think the lower estimate will be if we choose towards the lower depth values, and higher if we choose towards the higher depth values.
