Use matries A and B. Find B-A, if you can. A=[-5 4] B=[-2 7 -3] [-8 2] [1 -6 0]

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

matrix subtraction is only defined if the two matrices are of the same size so what is the size of A? the size of B?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jim_thompson5910 so are they suppose to be equal?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

how many rows does A have?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jim_thompson5910 2. same with B. but B has 3 numbers in each row

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so B has 3 columns

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

A is a 2x2 matrix B is a 2x3 matrix

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

they aren't the same size (the columns don't match up), so B-A is not defined

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it is not possible?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

no it's not

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

either B needs to have 2 columns or A needs to have 3 columns

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

for it to work out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jim_thompson5910 ahhh okay thanks for your help

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you're welcome
