3x^2=96

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Solution for 3x^2=96 Simplifying 3x2 = 96 Solving 3x2 = 96 Solving for variable 'x'. Move all terms containing x to the left, all other terms to the right. Divide each side by '3'. x2 = 32 Simplifying x2 = 32 Take the square root of each side: x = {-5.656854249, 5.656854249}

I did that & i got an answer around 400 when i plugged the value in for x and tried to solve for the equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay since you did that, Whatever answer you got is correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No because i need 3x^2 to equal to 96. If I use 5.657 and plug that in for x, b(5.657)^2, its not gonna equal to 96.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Not recommended. ALWAYS factor. 3x^2=96 x^2 = 32 x^2 - 32 = 0 (x+sqrt(32))(x-sqrt(32)) = 0 x = sqrt(32) or x = -sqrt(32) Note: Never say, use, or perform anything that is called "plug in".

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why is it never factored? does that go for (3+x)^2 as well?

@tkhunny

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Always factor.
