OpenStudy (anonymous):

How would i Solve the inequality and type the solution in interval notation. No spaces! -36 ≤ -5x - 1<-11

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

-36 <= -5x - 1 < -11 ---- add 1 1 - 36 <= -5x - 1 + 1 <- 11 + 1 --- combine like terms -35 <= -5x < -10 --- divide by -5 and change inequality signs -35/-5 >= -5x/-5 > -10/-5 7 >= x > 2 (2,7] --- interval notation

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

any questions ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why would you change the inequality signs ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but thank you

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

you ALWAYS change the inequality sign when dividing/multiplying by a negative number. This is a basic inequality rule :)
