OpenStudy (lovelyharmonics):
Let u = <7, -3>, v = <-9, 5>. Find 4u - 3v.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh ok
hold on let me think
OpenStudy (lovelyharmonics):
okay
OpenStudy (anonymous):
um this is pretty hard. what grade are you in??

11th its precalc
OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):
For vector u, multiply each component by 4. For v, multiply by 3.
When adding or subtracting vectors, use the components in the similar position.
OpenStudy (lovelyharmonics):
wait so you multiply -9, 5 by 3?
OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):
yes
OpenStudy (lovelyharmonics):
so its -28, 15

and 7,-3 would be 28, -12
OpenStudy (lovelyharmonics):
and together it would be 0, 3?
OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):
Err, you messed up vector v, hold on. Forget about the subtraction sign. Look again at your math for vector v and rewrite it.
OpenStudy (lovelyharmonics):
7 times 4=28 and -3 times 4=-12 though....
OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):
That's vector u. The other vector lol.

OpenStudy (lovelyharmonics):
okay but -9 times 3= -28 and 5 itmes 3=15
OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):
Eh, almost. -9*3 is -27.
So this is what we have now:
<28,-12> - <-27,15> . Easy artihmetic now.
OpenStudy (lovelyharmonics):
so 1,3
OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):
No :3 Look again. We're subtracting the vectors
X-component: 28 - (-27) = ?
Y-component: -12 - 15 = ?
OpenStudy (lovelyharmonics):
oh so 55, -27
