Well think about it. The system would be the fire in D, and fireplaces are generally opened up. So heat (energy) is being lost to the surroundings, so it can't be that. The same thing with A, excess heat is being lost to the surroundings outside of the pot. So we have it narrowed down to B and C. For B, it is closed off. But I don't quite understand how chemical reactions could be taking place in the washing machine, C, if I had to guess based on what I know, would be the correct answer. It is tightly closed off (with the cap) and some chemical reactions can take place inside of the liquid. In addition, pressure increases against the inside of the bottle.
