if $a < 0$ the parabola opens downward, and if $a > 0$ the parabola opens upward.

The vertex (which is either the lowest or highest point) will have an x-coordinate of $\large-\frac{b}{2a}$

The y-intercept will be the value of $y$ when you set $x =0$

Those three bits of information will probably suffice.
