Suppose you drop a tennis ball from a height of 6 feet. After the ball hits the floor, it rebounds to 80% of its previous height. How high will the ball rebound after its third bounce? Round to the nearest tenth.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well i think it might be 4.1.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay yeah its 4.1. I had to make sure.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you explain how you got that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

6 down 6*0.8 = 4.8 Bounce #1 4.8 up and 4.85 down 4.8*.8 = 3.84 Bounce #2 3.84 up and 3.84 down 3.84*.8 = 3.072 Bounce #3 3.072 up and 3.072 down 3.072*.8 = 2.4576 UP and we are done. It's an accounting problem.
