Ok, let me give you the question.
How were natural resources used in the North as compared to the South? Resources were used mainly for manufacturing in the North and farming in the South. Renewable resources were needed more in the North and non-renewable resources were needed in the South. The North required resources for agricultural industries, while the South needed resources for industrial production. Fewer resources were needed in the North as machines replaced human labor, but the South still needed resources for agricultural industries.

They don't have much agriculture in the North so C wouldn't make sense.

I think its D because of the industrial revolution that was going on in this time period. And also during this time the big machines replaced lots of humans in the North. Whereas in the south, lots of slave labor was needed. That is because of all the agricultural farming.

The south wasn't poor, because the south grew a lot of cotton which they traded for other things from the north.
The North had money, they wanted more money, so they went the industrial rout cause they knew they'd make more money than farming.
And who do you think had all the money to buy the cotton?

Missouri, part of the Louisiana Purchase, started a great debate by applying for statehood. Once an area met certain conditions, it could apply to be a state. The benefits of statehood included sending representatives and senators to the U.S. Congress, who would then work on behalf of their state. The problem with Missouri’s application is that it would upset the balance between slaveholding and free states—11 on each side. Missouri applied to be a slaveholding state. If approved, the balance would be lost. More members of Congress would support slavery than oppose it. To keep the balance, Congress agreed to admit Missouri as a slaveholding state and Maine, which had been part of Massachusetts, as a free state. Congress reached another compromise to settle the issue for the future: Missouri’s southern border, the line of latitude at 36 degrees 30 minutes north, would serve as the northernmost limit for slavery. Regions north of this line would be free, while areas south of it would allow slavery.
