determine if x+3 is a factor of -3x^3+6x^2+6x+9. how do you know? i keep getting yes because the remainder is 0, but that is not one of the answer choices. can someone help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, because the remainder is 126 no, because the remainder is –108 no, because the remainder is 126 yes, because the remainder is –108 these are the answer choices

OpenStudy (lyrae):

If you do a quick factorization of \[ -3x^3+6x^2+6x+9\] you'll qet \[3 (x - 3) (x^2 + x + 1)\]which has no common factor with x + 3, so you probably made some small error when you did your calcualtions. When I tried I got the reminder 126.
